We started out up at Big Springs in Island Park. Our wonderful guide explained how the spring water came out of the mountain.
They were all given a couple pieces of bread to feed the already over fed, huge fish and ducks that hang out under the bridge.
We then moved over to the famous Johnny Sack cabin. Built by a 4' 11'' little guy, it was the only cabin kept in that area back in 1979. (Oh yeah, I listened!)
We stopped a few miles south of Big Springs to the Island Park Reservoir, where they got to see how the same water from Big Srpings itself, was used to make electricity through huge turbines.Next, we stopped at one of my favorite places, Upper Mesa Falls. That's where we had lunch.
We went through the museum there, checking out the Grizzly Bear tracks, animal pelts, and animal skulls. How exciting that I was able to do that somewhere other than my own basement! (And yes, I volunteered to bring the albino skunk up for display. No takers. Losers!)

Then, we got to walk around the falls. So pretty! The guide brought it all home, showing how the water that started out at Big Springs, then went to the reservoir, ended up at the falls. Holy crap, how educational!
Our last stop was the cemetary. Weird, I know. They showed us where Johnny Sack was buried. Hayden was looking at the surounding head stones. She started brushing one off and said, "Mom, look at this. It says Marsden!" It was her great, great grandparents. (My Dad's grandparents) She thought that was so awesome! "They were just buried right there by Johnny Sack!" It was a lot of fun and I'm so glad that I was able to go!

Wow, it looks so gorgeous! What awesome field trips! Beautiful scenery (and beautiful Hayden too) :)
So is that the only reason Johny Sack is "famous"...for being short? Explain to me what is so special about that?? I don't get it?? Casey, on the other hand, will be so impressed to hear about your grandparents fortunate resting place. He's got a dang picture of that cabin on his debit card...don't ask me...he's odd!
Love that Miss Hayden!! So fetchin' cute!!
Oh, I be Mesa Falls is georgous this time of year!! With the leaves changing...ahh, it's just great up there!
On his debit card?!?!?! Mesa Falls, Zion Park, his own children vs. an old cabin built by a short guy? That's something Steve would do. Whatever...
It's "famous" because the cabin, furniture and stuff in it were all hand carved by Johnny himself. It really is amazing. The boys were all impressed with the gun & coat racks made out of deer feet. Eww!
Fun fieldtrips for you. This Friday we are going to Hogle Zoo with Michael. Your field trips are much prettier than ours are, but I guess on the flip side - all the bugs are behind glass!
